Your student housing plan

Find a room that fits your campus and your life.

Compare student accommodation across South Africa, ask better questions and keep your application organised. Start with your campus and budget, then check the details before committing.

From your first search to move-in

01

Search for your actual campus

Choose your institution and the campus you will attend most often. Compare the full journey, including walking to the gate, waiting for transport and getting home after evening classes. You can browse without allowing browser location.

Browse student accommodation

02

Build a shortlist you can afford

Compare the same room type and occupancy. Add rent, utilities, Wi-Fi, transport and compulsory charges, then calculate the deposit and move-in costs separately. Ask for a written breakdown of included services and payment dates.

Use the budget guide

03

Check the property and funding

View the actual room or arrange a live walkthrough. Ask about security, repairs and house rules. If your stay depends on NSFAS or another funder, confirm the exact property and your own eligibility through the official process.

Check NSFAS accommodation information

04

Apply with the information requested

Create a student account when you are ready to apply, save favourites or message a provider. Complete relevant profile details accurately and use the verification process if a feature requests it. Share student documents through the requested workflow rather than public messages or reviews.

05

Read, confirm and keep your records

An application is not a guaranteed room. Confirm the offer, room, lease dates, total charges, cancellation and deposit arrangements before signing or paying. Keep the complete agreement and payment references. Record the condition of the room with the provider at handover.

Open the viewing and move-in checklist

Start with a city, then choose a campus

City guides explain the areas and transport questions worth comparing. Use your actual campus in the listing filters; institutions can have several locations.

Questions students ask

Can I search without an account?

Yes. Browse residences and guides first. Sign-in is needed for account features such as saving favourites, applying and messaging.

Does verified mean a residence is guaranteed safe?

A verification badge records a ResMate check. It does not guarantee safety, ownership, funding, availability or the condition of a room. Complete your own checks and confirm the current details with the provider.

Is browsing or applying free?

Standard student browsing and online applications are free. Accommodation rent and other agreed charges are separate. Always read the provider’s quotation and lease.

Does applying on ResMate complete my NSFAS placement?

No. Follow the official funding and accommodation process for your institution and academic year. A third-party application or listing label does not replace it.

Can I find a roommate?

Roommate discovery is optional for eligible account users. Choose the preferences you want to share and control profile visibility. Compatibility suggestions do not decide housing eligibility or guarantee a suitable match.
