3. User Accounts

3.1 Registration

To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration and keep your account information up to date.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

3.3 Account Types

• Students: Can search, apply, and communicate with landlords
• Landlords: Can list properties, manage applications, and communicate with students

4. User Conduct

You agree not to:

• Provide false or misleading information
• Use the Platform for fraudulent purposes
• Harass, abuse, or harm other users
• Send spam or unsolicited messages
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
• Interfere with the Platform's operation
• Violate any applicable laws or regulations

5. Landlord Responsibilities

Landlords using our Platform agree to:

• Provide accurate and truthful property listings
• Maintain valid property authorization and compliance
• Respond to inquiries and applications in a timely manner
• Comply with the Rental Housing Act and other applicable laws
• Not discriminate against applicants unlawfully
• Honor NSFAS accreditation status if claimed

6. Student Responsibilities

Students using our Platform agree to:

• Provide accurate personal and academic information
• Communicate respectfully with landlords
• Honor application commitments made through the Platform
• Verify accommodation details before signing any lease

7. Payments and Fees

7.1 Platform Fees

The Platform is free for students to use. Landlords may be required to pay subscription or listing fees to maintain property visibility.

7.2 Third-Party Payments

Any payments for rent or deposits are made directly between students and landlords. ResMate is not responsible for such transactions.

8. Disclaimers

8.1 Platform Role

ResMate is a marketplace that connects students with landlords. We do not own, manage, or control any properties listed on our Platform.

8.2 No Warranties

We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of property listings or user information. Users should verify all details independently.

8.3 No Endorsement

The presence of a listing on our Platform does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation of that property or landlord.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ResMate shall not be liable for:

• Any disputes between students and landlords
• Property conditions or misrepresentations
• Financial losses arising from accommodation arrangements
• Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
• Service interruptions or data loss

10. Intellectual Property

All content, trademarks, and intellectual property on the Platform belong to ResMate or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our content without permission.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately.

12. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall be governed by the laws of South Africa. You agree to first attempt to resolve disputes through good-faith negotiation before pursuing legal action.

13. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on the Platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
