Where to begin your search

Potchefstroom and Mahikeng are separate student housing markets. North-West University also has a Vanderbijlpark campus in Gauteng, despite the institution’s name. Your admission documents should determine which city you search. Compare private residences and shared houses against the route to your faculty and the full lease cost.

Check the daily journey

Measure the route from the actual room to your campus entrance, then to your faculty. Ask how a shuttle changes during exams and recess. Mahikeng and Potchefstroom should not be treated as interchangeable locations for daily travel.

Before choosing a room

  • Confirm whether you attend NWU Potchefstroom, Mahikeng or Vanderbijlpark.
  • For shared houses, check who pays for electricity, cleaning and internet.
  • Check heating and hot-water costs alongside rent for inland winter months.
